Native to E & S Africa (C Ethiopia to South Africa)
This species is found in Nomos & Eparchia Korinthias: coastal forest of Pefkias, near Xylokastro, ca. 10 m, 38°05'N, 22°38'E, 24.12.2011, fruiting, Sfikas 14077 (herb. Sfikas). Cultivated as an ornamental plant in Greece as in other parts of the Mediterranean. This appears to be the first record of it locally naturalized
in Greece
