Arthrophyllum collinum

Description

Sparingly branched shrub or small tree up to 12 m, all young parts with dense, rufous tomentum which persists on flowers and inflorescences. Leaves multijugate, up to 60 (or more) by 32 cm; Inflorescence a cluster of specialized leafy branches forming a terminal crown; Petals 5, broadly triangular, c. 2 mm long. Stamens 5, anthers curved. Ovary turbinate, rufous-tomentose, c. 1.5 mm long at anthesis; Fruit ellipsoidal, c. 9 by 5 mm (when dry), the calyx and stylopodium prominent.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Borneo present (Sabah present, Sarawak present)
Malesia: Borneo (Sarawak and Sabah).

Notes

The bark is grey and smooth, the wood pale and soft, and the cut stems exude a yellowish or orange latex.
This species is characterized by the rotund, coriaceous leaves on the flowering branches.
