Description

internal hairs absent or present. Leaves spirally arranged to distichous; Stamens 1 or 2 (or 3).

Distribution

From West Africa and Madagascar to Fiji and New Caledonia present
From West Africa and Madagascar to Fiji and New Caledonia with c. 55 species.

Pollination

The species of sect. Oreosycea are pollinated by fig wasps of the genus Dolichoris ().

Morphology

The bristle-like hairs found in some species on the inner surface of the receptacle or on the pedicels are quite distinct from the thin hairs occurring on other parts of the plant.

Taxonomy

The section can be subdivided into two well-defined subsections with different centres of distribution.
