Archidendropsis sepikensis

Description

Tree to 24 m high, trunk to 18 m, 37 cm in diameter; Leaves: Stipules oblong-lanceolate, acute, 10-14 by 3-4 mm, densely tomentellous, caducous. Inflorescences consisting of pedunculate spiciform racemes aggregated into axillary panicles at the distal leaves, tomentose or hirsute, racemes 1.5-5.5 cm, peduncle c. 2.5 cm, pedicel 0.5-2 mm, subtended by inconspicuous bracts. Flowers pentamerous, white, bisexual. Stamens 14-20 mm, tube 3-4 mm, exceeding the corolla-tube. Ovary 1-2 mm, solitary, sessile or shordy stipitate, glabrous or puberulous. Seeds unknown.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present
Malesia: New Guinea.

Notes

Only known from two collections, the type being from the West Sepik Prov., Papua New Guinea. The single specimen from West Irian has a puberulous, sessile ovary, and may belong to a distinct subspecies or species (cf. Nielsen, l.с.).
