Description

Herbs or shrubs. Leaves membranaceous, long-petioled. Flowers medium-sized, in dense, many-flowered verticillasters, often forming axillary, globose clusters. Stamens 4, ascending under the upper lip, the lower pair longer;

Asia-Tropical: Maluku (Maluku); New Guinea, Continental SE. Asia present, E. Himalayas present, Lesser Sunda Is, S. China present, Southern America: Argentina Northeast (Formosa present), W. Malesia present
Continental SE. Asia (E. Himalayas to S. China), Formosa, c. 6 spp.; in W. Malesia 2 spp., not yet known from the Lesser Sunda Is., Moluccas, and New Guinea.
