Southeast Asia to the Pacific and Australia. Throughout Malesia, but absent from the Lesser Sunda Islands.
Morphology
1Juvenile fronds may be variously intermediate between base and foliage fronds. In older plants, base fronds may be absent. Young fronds are covered with down which is often retained on the base fronds until they are quite old and withered, and often also on the stipe and rachis of foliage fronds.
2 Probably quite frequently harbouring ants.
