Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Jawa (Jawa present); Lesser Sunda Is. present; New Guinea present; Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka present), Australasia, Easter Island present, New Zealand present, Pacific: Hawaii present, Pacific Islands present, Polynesia present
About 12 species, but the taxonomy imperfectly known, several species being quite similar. Sri Lanka to Polynesia; in Malesia: Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, New Guinea; Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands east to Hawaii and Easter Island

Taxonomy

The genus has long been recognised as distinct and no subdivisions have been proposed for it.
