Description

Leaves: Inflorescence axillary, sometimes 2 in a single leaf axis, axis mostly shorter than subtending petiole, to 2.8 cm long; Sepals ovate, 1.8-2.7 mm long, lobes 1.1-1.9 by 0.8-1.7 mm, 0.7-2 times as long as wide, apex rounded, rarely acute or obtuse, glabrous, ciliate. Stamens inserted at 1.9-3.3 mm from corolla base which is 0.35-0.73 of tube length; Ovary 0.6-1.4 mm long; Fruit spherical or oval, 1.7-5.8 by 1.2-5.8 cm, yellow or orange. Seeds 6-16 by 4-13 by 3-6 mm.

Uses

Previously exploited for a poor quality rubber before the widespread use of Hevea brasiliensis. The fruit is edible.

Notes

Masamune (1942) reported this species from Borneo but I have seen no material from there.
