Description

Staminate and neuter flowers scattered among the pistillate ones or near the ostiole, usually (sub)sessile. Stamens 2 (or 3), the anthers lanceolate to oblong in outline, usually mucronate. Ovaries of short-styled flower red(dish).

Distribution

Asia-Temperate: Korea present, Asia-Tropical: Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka present), Carolines present, Japan present, N Australia present, Sino-Himalayan region present, Solomon Islands present, western Malesian region present
The section comprises about 40 species in an area from Sri Lanka to Korea, Japan, the Carolines, the Solomon Islands, and N Australia. About 50% are eastern Malesian and the others about equally divided over the western Malesian region and the Sino-Himalayan region.

Morphology

This section is morphologically more varied than sect. Kissosycea. Foveolate lower surfaces of the lamina are confined to a few species.
