Notes

This species was included in B. pauciflora by Payens (). While they are similar and related, I follow Chantaronothai (1995) who reinstated this as a species. It differs from B. pauciflora in the long thin, pendulous inflorescence and the pedicellate flowers. Barringtonia pauciflora has a short erect inflorescence, a rare feature in the genus.
