Distribution

Asia-Temperate: Taiwan (Taiwan present), Asia-Tropical: Philippines (Philippines present); Thailand (Thailand present), Central and SW Celebes present, SW China present, Tonkin present, southern Burma present, western Malesia present
Southern Burma and Thailand; Malesia: Western Malesia, Central and SW Celebes, Philippines. Specimens from Taiwan, SW China and Tonkin have sparse longer hairs on the upper surface but are otherwise similar.

Taxonomy

The first description of this species (as Aspidium intermedium) was by Mettenius in 1858, with citation of A. devexum as a synonym; the latter name was not validated until 1864, almost simultaneously with the publication of A. membranaceum Hook.
