Tree up to 30 m tall, hemi-epiphytic or (secondarily?) terrestrial. internal hairs absent. Leaves spirally arranged; stipules (1-)2-5(-14) cm long, sparsely to densely whitish (to brownish) puberulous to subvelutinous with the hairs sometimes retrorse, or glabrous, caducous; Ovary red.


The species is variable in dimensions of various parts and the presence of indumentum. Two subspecies can be distinguished:
