Description

Large trees, 15-47 m tall. Leaves: Inflorescences ramiflorous spikes, pendulous, 20-110 cm long, 40-50-flowered; Flowers sessile; Fruits ovoid or musiform, fissured, pulverulent, truncate at both ends, 6-15 by 1.5-3.5 cm, single seeded.

Asia-Temperate, Asia-Tropical: Borneo present (Sabah present, Sarawak present); Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present); Thailand (Thailand present), Myanmar present, W and S Sumatra present
China, Myanmar, Thailand; in Malesia: W and S Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak).

Notes

Some material of this species has been mistakenly identified as Chydenanthus excelsus (Blume) Miers, a species of Sumatra and Java that does not occur in Peninsular Malaysia (see ). This is the largest tree in the genus Barringtonia.
