    Described by Zohary in 1969 based on historical collections in NW Turkey, on both sides of the Bosporus. The small population found on Limnos apparently represents the first record of the species since its original description. Morphologically related to T. suffocatum L., T. glomeratum L. and T. cernuum Brot. (Bergmeier et al. in Raab-Straube & Raus 2021).
