Salvia ringens was illustrated on Plate 18 of Flora Graeca, probably based on a plant from Mt Parnassos. It is a showy Balkan endemic, generally found in rocky ravines and open woodland at 400–1300 m. About 25 other species of Salvia occur in Greece.
