Noccaea zaffranii is a recently discovered species endemic to a small area in Levka Ori (W Kriti). Initially it was known only from fruiting material. The colour of the leaves and fruits is very similar to that of the underlying rock, making the plant difficult to spot. The alpine zone of Levka Ori has a remarkable concentration of rare local endemics, surpassing that of any other area in Greece and possibly in Europe.A
