Description

Herbs, mostly branched. Leaves sessile. Flowers axillary, solitary, 4-merous; calyx tube coriaceous, rigid, 8-ribbed, calyx lobes 4, valvate, with transverse secondary veins; corolla funnel-shaped, 4-lobed; stamens 4, sometimes slightly didynamous, anthers ellipsoid; pollen in monads; style with tendency to heterostyly, stigma 2-lobed. Fruit a capsule, not longer than calyx tube, with 2flat valves, which open widely; seeds reticulate.
