Description

Unbranched, decumbent herbs, 0.4-0.5(-0.7) m long, rooting at base. Stem obtusely quadrangular and bisulcate, pubescent. Petiole 3-5(-10) mm long, puberulous; blade elliptic to oblong, 10-13 x 3-5 cm, rather thin, entire or undulate, apically acuminate, attenuate at base, glabrous except puberulent primary vein and secondary veins on lower surface. Inflorescence axillary and terminal spikes, in groups of 2-3, lax, rather long, 3.5-7 cm long, glandular pubescent, flowers secund and solitary at nodes; peduncle 10-18 mm long; bracts decussate, drying brownish, narrowly linear or spathulate, 5-8 x 0.6-1.5 mm, glandular hirtellous, margin ciliolate; bracteoles subequal, similar to bracts, margin ciliolate. Flowers sessile; calyx 5-lobed, lobes subequal, narrowly triangular, 4.5-5 x 0.3 mm, hirtellous, margin ciliolate; corolla pale violet to purple, 10-12 mm long, shortly pubescent, tube cylindric, 5 mm long, upper lip erect, triangular, 7 x 4 mm, scarcely 2-lobed, lower lip partially spreading to erect, 4-5 mm long, 3-lobed, lobes orbicular, 3 x 2 mm, rounded, delicately veined and apically ciliolate; stamens exserted ca. 4 mm beyond mouth of corolla tube, filaments glabrous, anther thecae 1 mm long, subequal, superposed, glabrous; style exserted ca. 3.5 mm beyond mouth of corolla tube, glabrous, stigma subcapitate, 0.1 mm long, minutely 2-lobed or rounded. Capsule ovate-stipitate, 8.5 mm long, pubescent, stipe 3 mm long, body ovoid, retinacula ca. 1.2 mm long, narrowly cucullate; seeds 4, brownish, lenticular, 2.3 x 2 mm, surface covered with prominent knoblike tubercles, margin glandular ciliate.

The Guianas and Brazil, Amapa; uncommon, 20 collections studied of which 18 from the Guianas (GU: 8, SU: 1; FG: 9).
