Description

Small to large trees. Stipules wanting. Leaves alternate, pinnately compound with a rudimentary distal leaflet; petiolules short and slightly enlarged at base; leaf rachis angled or terete, furrowed; leaflets alternate or subopposite, with entire margins. Inflorescences axillary or distal, racemiform or paniculate thyrses, with flowers in compound, pedunculate dichasia. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual or unisexual (plant polygamous-dioecious); sepals 5, imbricate, concave; petals 5, longer than the sepals, lacking appendages; disc annular, 5-lobed; stamens 8 or 10, shorter than the petals, the filaments villose, filiform, of equal length, the anthers basifixed; ovary 2-(3)-locular, the locules with a single ovule. Fruit a 2-(3)-locular, leathery capsule, the cocci equally developed or one of them smaller. Seeds large, arillate.
