Placement status: excluded
Guianas absent, Northern America, Southern America: Paraguay (Paraguay present), eastern Colombia absent, eastern Venezuela absent, northern Brazil absent
This species, cited by Aublet (1775, p. 833) and by Richard Schomburgk (3: 822. 1848), has a large distribution area from the Caribbean and Mexico to Paraguay, but does not occur in the Guianas, eastern Venezuela, eastern Colombia and northern Brazil.
What Aublet saw is quite obscure. According to Schomburgk,
Aristolochia odoratissima was cultivated in Guyana and might have belonged, under Aublet's care, to the collections of the "Jardin du Roy" in Cayenne as well. See also Briquet () about a possible confusion with Aristolochia gabrielis (= Aristolochia leprieurii, 1-10).
