Description

Monoecious, deciduous or semideciduous shrubs or trees, often buttressed. Leaves alternate, petioled, glabrous, coriaceous, triplinerved at base or pinnately nerved. Stipules lateral, extrapetiolar, subulate, caducous. Inflorescences ♂, ♀, or very rarely ♂♀, axillary; Seed exalbuminous, coat membranous, few cells thick;

About 4-5 spp. Mexico, Madagascar, Ceylon, India, Burma, China (also Hainan), Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hongkong, Indo-China, Thailand, Andamans, through Malesia to Australia (Queensland and New South Wales) and Solomons. Throughout Malesia (except Malaya and Moluccas): 2 spp. .
