Description

Small to medium-sized tree up to 30 m, 60 cm ø. Bark surface rough, grey-brown, often flaky. Leaves coriaceous, glabrous, ovate-elliptic to elliptic-oblong, (5-)10-14(-20) by (2-)3-6(-8) cm, index 2½-3; Stipules narrow ovate-acute, 2-3 by 1 mm. Fruit ovoid, glabrous, including the beak 15-20 by 8-12 mm, beak up to 5 mm;

Sumatra present, Sibolangit present, Sumbawa present, Timor present, mainly N. Central & E. parts present
Ceylon, India, Burma, Andaman Is., ? China, Hainan, Hongkong, Indo-China, Thailand; in Malesia: NE. Sumatra (Sibolangit, doubtfully native), Java (mainly N. Central & E. parts), Lesser Sunda Islands (Bali, Sumbawa, Flores, Timor, rather common), Borneo (very rare, Kinabalu area), Philippines (Mindanao, rare), Celebes (rare). .

Notes

Though I have not been able to examine any of the specimens cited by Hu (1940), judging from the description given it is likely that Gironniera yunnanensis Hu must be referred to this species.
