Kibara myrtoides

Description

Shrub to 2 m; Leaves elliptic, 4-5 by 1.3-2.2 cm, membranaceous, base cuneate, apex long-acuminate, entire, midrib prominent, veins obscure, becoming glabrous except for the midrib below; Inflorescence axillary, in dichasia or solitary, pubescent.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical, Papua New Guinea present, Sepik region present
Malesia: Papua New Guinea (Sepik region). Only known from type.

Notes

The specimen available to me lacks flowers so that the parts of the above account are derived from the original description. Since the androecium is so reduced and details of the female flower are not given, the assignment to Kibara must remain tenta-tive. The foliage is quite unlike any other species.
