Distribution
Asia-Tropical: Philippines (Philippines present), Leyte present present, Mindoro present, Palawan present
Malesia: Philippines (Palawan, Mindoro, Leyte); on Leyte one slightly deviating specimen occurs (Soejarto c. s. 8079), in leaves approaching M. agusanensis.
Morphology
The species is named after the purplish red contrasting colour of midrib and nerves on the lower leaf surface; for fresh leaves the nerves were mentioned as being yellow on the otherwise glaucous lower leaf surface.
