Description

Erect, branched herb, 2.5-13 cm high. Leaves oblong, acute, c. 0.8-1.5 by c. 0.4-0.7 mm, not amplexicaul, appressed. Flowers c. 3-9 (-18), all around. Stamens 3, c. 0.25-0.3 mm;

Asia-Tropical: Maluku (Maluku present); New Guinea present, Kolombangara I present, Obi and Aru Is present, Solomons present, Waigeo I present
Solomons (Kolombangara I.) and Malesia: New Guinea (NW. and NE. parts, Waigeo I.) and Moluccas (Obi and Aru Is.).

Notes

Fresh plant violet or scarlet. Leaves dark wine-red or black, flowers carmine, fruits whitish, with wine-red spots.
WENT Sr came to the erroneous conclusion that S. corniculata was conspecific with S. nana, and this was copied by KooRDERs and Mrs. KOORDERS-SCHU-MACHER; they accepted the name S. corniculata although this is younger than S. nana, and claimed the species for Java, where it does not occur. See under S. nana.
