Description

Perennial herbs with short, woody rhizome, often stoloniferous. Leaves basal, equitant, similar to the stems. Inflorescence paniculate. Flowers usually 2-4, the upper one bisexual, the lower one(s) sterile, or ♂ by reduction. Stamens 3, connective distinctly produced.

Asia-Tropical, Australasia, New Caledonia present, New Zealand present
About 40 spp., often difficult to delimit, mostly Australian, 1 endemic in New Zealand, 2 in New Caledonia. . In Malesia only: Lepidosperma chinense NEES & MEYEN.
