Annam present, Asia-Temperate: China South-Central (Yunnan present); Korea present, Asia-Tropical: Philippines (Philippines present), Baguio present, Benguet Subprov present, Europe present, Japan present, N. Luzon present, N. Sumatra present, North America present, Northern Asia present, Ryu Kyu Is present, Southern America: Argentina Northeast (Formosa present), Toba Lake present
Widely distributed in North America, throughout Europe and northern Asia, Japan, Korea, extending southward to the Ryu Kyu Is., Yunnan, Annam, and Formosa, in Malesia: N. Sumatra (Toba Lake), Philippines (N. Luzon; Benguet Subprov., Baguio). A distinct northern element in the Malesian flora.

Notes

The Malesian plants (and with a few exceptions all East Asiatic ones) belong to: var. longiseta SVENS.
