Description
Small to large-sized tree up to 40 m, 60 cm ø.
Bark smooth to finely fissured, pustular or lenti-cellate.
Leaves thick-coriaceous, broad ovate-elliptic or elliptic-oblong, (6-)12-16(-21) by (3½-)5-8(-13)cm, index 2-2½, except for midrib and nerves glabrous;
Inflorescence ♂ or ♀, axillary, borne on separate branchlets or rarely on the same branchlet, including the bracts sparsely to densely short, yellowish-brown, appressed-hairy, glabrescent;
Fruit 1-1¼ by 8-9 by 5-6 mm, sparsely appressed-pubescent, glabrescent, beak 2-5 mm.
Distribution
Andaman Is present, Asia-Temperate: China South-Central (Yunnan present); Hainan (Hainan present), Asia-Tropical: Thailand (Thailand present), Burma present, Canton present, Hongkong present, Kwangtung present, Lesser Sunda Is absent
A rather variable species widely distributed in the Andaman Is., Burma, China (Yunnan, Kwangtung, Canton, Hainan), Hongkong, Indo-China, Thailand, throughout Malesia (except the Lesser Sunda Is.).
