Toechima erythrocarpum subsp. papuanum

Description

Treelet or tree, up to 30 m high by 60 cm dbh; Leaves (l-)3-6-jugate; Inflorescences up to 30 cm long with few to several long patent to rather erect branches, the flowers in sessile, dense, many-flowered tufts; Sepal lobes triangular, 1.25-1.8 by 1.25-2 mm, on both sides variably hairy, ± ciliate, no glands, margin entire. Petals shortly and broadly to long and narrowly clawed; Stamens: Fruits 2-2.5 cm diam., glabrous (to tomentellous); Seeds 14-18 by 8-10 mm, hilum and sarcotesta together c. 10 by 3 mm.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present, northern Queensland present
Malesia: New Guinea. A second subspecies, subsp. erythrocarpum, in northern Queensland.
