Astelia alpina

Description

Erect herb, forming dense cushions. Leaves linear to narrowly lanceolate, often with a silvery film on the upper surface and densely covered by silvery scales on the lower surface or glabrescent, often with red margins, 3-13(-40) cm by 3-7(-25) mm, with 1-3 major veins and several minor; Seeds numerous, c. 2 mm ø.

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present, Australasia: Tasmania (Tasmania present); Victoria (Victoria present), E. Malesia present, Latimodjong Range present, Mt Rante Mario, summit zone, very local present, West Central Celebes present, from Mt Wilhelmina in W through the highlands of Papua New Guinea to Mt Albert Edward in E present, southern New South Wales present
Australia (Tasmania, Victoria, southern New South Wales) and E. Malesia: New Guinea (from Mt Wilhelmina in W through the highlands of Papua New Guinea to Mt Albert Edward in E), West Central Celebes (Latimodjong Range; Mt Rante Mario, summit zone, very local).

Notes

The collection in West Central Celebes was made by Dr. J. M. B. Smith in February 1981 and is a remarkable addition.
