Description

Densely red-brown lanate-hairy on the young vegetative parts, inflorescences and flowers, later glabrescent on the stems and leaf upper surfaces. Leaves opposite or scattered; lamina narrowly ovate, mostly 5-16 cm long, mostly 2-5 cm wide, truncate or slightly cordate at the base to a petiole 5-25(-35) mm long, acuminate and broadly acute at the apex, glossy above, dull below; venation pinnate with the midrib and main laterals distinct above and prominent below. Inflorescencess at the nodes, a 3-10-flow- ered spike; axis (4-)6-30(-60) mm long; bracts foliaceous, 3—10(—15) mm long, appressed to the ovary.

Thailand; Malesia: Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Java.

Notes

Dendrophthoe magna was based on a plant with a longer inflorescence axis and shorter corolla. Variation in both characters is continuous and without any clear geographic pattern except that plants from Java generally have short corollas.
