Apparently introduced to the Philippines by the Spanish from Mexico (Merrill 1910, 1918).
Notes
I have seen only the specimens cited by Merrill (1923) and doubt that the species ever established in Malesia, though it has shown some persistence at Bauang, Batangas Province, Luzon, where it was recollected in 1915 by Merrill, the first collection from that place being that of Blanco before 1837 (Merrill 1918).
