Taxonomy

3Collections from the Admiralty Islands and New Britain have small leaves and figs, matching those from the Solomon Islands and other islands in the Pacific region. The other collections (from New Guinea and the Moluccas) have larger leaves and figs. 2This species can be distinguished from F. brachypoda of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the lamina being broadest in the middle, the persistent periderm of the twigs or the petioles shorter than 2.5 cm. 1Material with a slit-shaped aperture of the ostiole found in the Solomon Islands is excluded from the species and described as a new one, F. baola C.C. Berg ().
