    According to W. Greuter (pers. comm.), A. elegans Gaudin, Agrost. Helv. 1: 130, 355. 1811 was published as a synonym instead of an accepted name and is therefore invalid. A. elegans Willd. ex Roem. & Schult., Syst. Veg., ed. 15 bis 2: 682 (1817) is the correct name of this taxon at species rank (Wipff 2007: 616), antedating A. elegantissima Schur in Verh. Mitth. Siebenbürg. Vereins Naturwiss. Hermannstadt 4: 85. (1853).
