Description

Tree to 32 m high, stem diameter 68 cm. Branchlets terete, glabrous (or tomentellous). Leaves: Stipules filiform, subulate, 1.5-2 mm, early caducous. Inflorescences consisting of pedunculate glomerules aggregated into terminal and axillary puberulous to shortly tomentose panicles; Flowers bisexual, sessile, uniform, pentamerous, fragrant. Stamens white, to c. 6 mm, tube longer than the corolla-tube, often equalling the corolla. Ovary glabrous, 1-1.5 mm, sessile. Seeds obovate or suborbicular, flattened, c. 7 by 5 by 1.5 mm;

Uses

Used as a shade-tree and for firewood; the wood is durable but too light for construction purposes; the bark is used for tanning.

Notes

Specimens from Timor have wider pods, 2.4-2.8 cm wide; some specimens from Timor and Bali have larger leaflets, up to 2.7 by 0.9-1.4 cm, but otherwise agree with the species.
