Description

Tree up to 11 m high, dbh c. 20 cm; Leaves 3-5-jugate; Inflorescences axillary, panicles, up to c. 6 cm long; Sepals 1-1.2 mm high, nearly completely connate, hairy at both sides to only inside sparsely hairy mainly basally. Petals absent. Stamens: Fruits 2-lobed, deeply cordate especially when young, smooth, lobes globular, c. 8 mm in diam., densely fulvous-tomentellous;

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present
Malesia: New Guinea.

Notes

The present species is close to A. ferrugineus; it differs primarily by the small, deeply cordate fruits. Furthermore, A. ferrugineus is gen-erally far more coarse and more hairy, and the hairs are not so reddish brown as in A. cardiocarpus.
