Taxonomy

Forman (1960) recognized two varieties, based on the absence or presence of a dense indumentum of long, hirsute hairs. The two varieties are here synonymised, because there is a complete overlap in distribution and the density of the long hairs is rather variable, varying from subglabrous to absent in the inflorescences to present on leaves and inflorescences.
