Description

Plants to 18 cm long, sparsely-branched vegetatively, differentiated into distinct vegetative and flowering axes. Hairs of the floral cushion absent. Flowers in 1 row, 3 per cluster; the male flower solitary and central. Rudimentary leaves together encircling the node, c. 0.5 mm high, leathery, acute at the apices. Flower-bearing stems forming terete spike-like conflorescences to 35 mm long, these usually solitary in the axils and sometimes terminal in threes; internodes 1-1.5 mm long; floral bracts c. 0.5 mm long, acute, sparsely and shortly ciliate.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Borneo present; Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present); Sumatera (Sumatera present), Flores present
Malesia: Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Flores; recorded sporadically, possibly more widespread but overlooked owing to the small size of the plants.

Notes

Similar and probably related to K. papuana, differing in the characters set out in the key.
