Morphology

Often with spiny coppice-shoots. In young branches the stipules are triangular-acute and rigid, becoming spinescent in old branches. The flowering short-shoots have often leaves with one pair of pinnae, but leaves with two pairs of pinnae can be seen in most collections.

Taxonomy

Verdcourt (I.e.) wondered if more than one taxon was involved because of the very variable indumentum and pod characters. However, as judged from the scarce material, these characters seem to be mutually independent. Here, the subdivision as suggested by Brummitt (I.e.) is followed, although the Australian specimens still may prove to belong to a distinct subspecies.
