Malesia: N. Sumatra (Berastagi, West Hill; Lake Toba, Gunung Batu, Lopang, 10 km ESE of Prapat).

Notes

I had dismissed RIDLEY'S variety as a casual variant, but its recollection in the same general area suggests a population of black-fruited specimens exists; since the fruit is uniformly described as red throughout its range the occurrence of such a variety seems worth emphasising.
