Vriesea splendens var. formosa

Description

Leaf blades 3-5 cm wide, obtuse and apiculate (?), wholly green. Raceme mostly not over 25 cm long, to 6 cm wide, lanceolate, broadly obtuse. Floral bracts about 6 times as long as the internodes.

Guyana present, N. Venezuela present, Tobago present, Trinidad present
N. Venezuela, Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana. Collections cited by Smith & Downs 1977 (not seen).

Cultivation

A nice variety, with a beautiful colored spike, less decorative than V. splendens var. splendens because of the uniformly colored leaves; grown in the same way.
