Description

Plant, including leaves, rigid or scabrous, in certain cultivated varieties bushy and not trailing. Flowers: Fruit small, medium or very large, smooth, sometimes costate or verrucate; Seeds variable in size, 7-25 mm long.

Cultivated.

Taxonomy

Here belong the non-trailing suberect ‘bushy’ growing (Italian) ‘courgette’ or ‘zucchini’, nowadays a popular vegetable in Europe, and also the flat ‘scallop’ or ‘patison’. See further Jeffrey (2001), and Goldman (2004).
