The genus has been synonymised in Holarrhena by where he made the species a synonym of Holarrhena pubescens with a neotype from India. However, the protologue states that the corolla aestivation is sinistrorse, whereas it is dextrorse in Holarrhena. Also the plant was collected in Java and Holarrhena is unknown in Java. As the neotypification is in conflict with the protologue it can be abandoned and in the absense of any material its identity is a mystery.
