Description

Young twig, raceme, stipule and bud, petiole, midrib and leaf beneath densely powdery caducous or persistent rufous tomentose. Leaves 6-11 by 2.5-4 cm, ovate-lanceolate, coriaceous, base obtuse; Stipule 5-8 mm long, linear. Sepals equal, narrowly deltoid, obtuse, glabrous. Petals cream, lanceolate, glabrous. Stamens c. 30, subequal, reaching to below style apex; Panicle to 8 cm long, terminal or axillary, ribbed apically on drying, otherwise terete; Ovary ovoid, glabrous;

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Borneo present (Brunei present, Sarawak present), Lower Kapuas present, W. Sabah present
Malesia: Borneo (Lower Kapuas, Sarawak, Brunei, W. Sabah).

Uses

Considered of inferior quality, darker, harder and more liable to splitting than other species.

Notes

SFN 32194, a flowering collection from swamps in S.E. Johore, differs from D. oblongifolia Dyer in possessing more coriaceous leaf and rufous flocculent pubescent innovations and inflorescence, in this resembling this species which is otherwise unknown outside Borneo. Fruit are required to confirm this record.
