Xanthophyllum chartaceum

Primary tabs

Xanthophyllum chartaceum

Description

Tree, up to 30 m, 1 m dbh. Leaf-blade 4.5-11.5 by 2-4.2 cm, papery thin, base nearly cordate to cuneate, apex acuminate to cuspidate; Flowers unknown. Fruit globular to more or less pear-shaped, up to 8.5 cm long, strongly wrinkled, when dry black, probably glabrous; Seeds 8 or more, like those of 74. X. papuanum, but both layers of the testa much thinner, and albumen forming a thin layer along the outer side of the cotyledons.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present), Central Sumatra present
Malesia: Malay Peninsula, Central Sumatra (Indragiri).

Notes

Because of its thin nigrescent leaves with few laminar glands, its habit is atypical in Xanthophyllum. As its flowers may be atypical too (i.e. in being possibly 'regular'), flowering material may have been collected already but identified wrongly.
