Taxonomy
This species was described as coming from Java and belonging to sect, Androsaemum (DUN.) GODR., which is otherwise confined to Europe, W. Asia, N. Africa and Macaronesia. It is said to be close to H. elatum AIT. (i.e. H. inodorum MILL.), which is the hybrid H hircinum L. x H. androsaemum L. The type specimen has not been located, but, if it does come from Java — and is correctly — it is almost certain to be an escape from cultivation.
