Description

Small trees, 2-15 m tall. Leaves: Inflorescence a terminal spike, pendulous; Flowers sessile; Fruits ovoid, 3-5 by 1-2 cm, turning reddish, exocarp smooth. Seeds 3-5 or rarely single, 2-4 by 1-2 cm.

Asia-Tropical: Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present); Thailand (Thailand present), Kedah present, Kelantan present, Perak present, Selangor present, Terengganu present
Thailand; in Malesia: Peninsular Malaysia (Kedah, Kelantan, Perak, Selangor, Terengganu).

Notes

This species is very similar to B. macrostachya and hard to distinguish vege­tatively without the fruit that is very different. The smaller ovoid fruit of this species usually has more than one seed, but not consistently.
