Phoradendron inaequidentatum

Description

Much branched plants with terete branches; nodes expanding in age; stems mostly dichotomous through terminal inflorescences, where percurrent with 1-4 pairs of intercalary cataphylls; lateral stems with 2-5 pairs of basal cataphylls spaced further apart distally but less than halfway to next foliage leaves. Petiole stout, to 1 cm long; blade elliptical to somewhat spatulate, to 9 x 6 cm; venation sometimes obscure, palmate. Monoecious. Inflorescence to 3 cm long when in fruit, bisexual; male flowers few and apparently limited to lowest 1(2) fertile internodes; sterile cataphylls 1-3 pairs, terminal inflorescence apparently without; fertile internodes 4 or 5; flowers 1-3 per fertile bract. Fruit somewhat reddish or orange, ovoid, nearly 0.4 x 0.6 cm, perianth segments erect.

Southern America: Bolivia (Bolivia present); Panamá (Panamá present)
Panama to Bolivia; 150+ collections studied (GU: 8; FG: 1).

Notes

Apparently, entirely male specimens occur, which show to 12 flowers per fertile bract in 3-seriate arrangement.
