Chilocarpus suaveolens

Description

Large woody climber. Branchlets sparsely and minutely puberulent at least when young, very rarely glabrous. Leaves: Inflorescence axillary, 1.3-4 cm long, much shorter than the subtending leaf; Stamens inserted at 1.5-2.4 mm from corolla base which is 0.3-0.5 of tube length; Ovary 0.9-1.2 mm long; Fruit dull orange, ovoid, 4.5-9 by 2.4-3.7 cm. Seeds 7-10 by 5-7.2 by 4.5-5.7 mm.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Borneo present; Jawa (Jawa present); Sumatera (Sumatera present)
Malesia: Sumatra, Borneo, Java.

Taxonomy

The material of this species cited by Leeuwenberg (2002) for New Guinea is Melodinus acutiflorus and that for Sulawesi Chilocarpus denudatus.
