Description

Tree, c. 8 m high. Leaves 1- or 2-jugate; Inflorescences axillary. Sepals free, 1.5-2.5 mm long. Petals 5, elliptic, 0.8-1.4 mm long, with a short claw, without a scale, either outside glabrous, inside woolly in the lower half, or on both sides woolly mainly in the lower half. Stamens c. 7. Ovary 2-celled. Fruits ellipsoid, c. 2-2.5 by 1.25 cm, glabrous, appendages dense, 8-10 mm long, bulbous-based, the apical part triangular in cross section, curved;

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Borneo present (Sarawak present), W Kalimantan present
Malesia: Borneo (Sarawak, W Kalimantan).

Notes

The present species is probably allied with N. laurinum, which is mainly restricted to Malaya and Sumatra. Notwithstanding the resemblance in leaflets and fruits N. havilandii and N. uncina-tum do not seem to be closely allied: in flower characters N. havilandii is relatively 'primitive", and N. uncinatum far more derived.
